The Most Popular Valentine’s Day Gifts from Around the World

Depending on where in the world you make your home, the gifts and traditions of Valentine’s Day can really differ.

Flowers are customary in Austria just as they are in America.

In Britain there are valentine buns baked with plums, raisins, or caraway seeds, and children sing songs and get candy.

In Japan the women gives the man a gift on February fourteenth and on March fourteenth he has to give it back to her, so she essentially chooses her own gift. Something very similar is done in Korea, as well.

In Spain, men generally send their wives or girlfriends roses.

Scotland has a big festival where dancing and a lot of fun activities occur.

No matter where you are the most common offerings are still flowers, chocolates, and cards, but there are as many customs as there are countries, and not everyone in a particular country does things in a traditional way. Some people like to break with tradition and get their love something that’s completely unique and different, making it very memorable for both parties and something that they can treasure in the future.

    Hi,

Ever found it hard to express your feelings to someone you care about? Make them feel special, apologize or simply let them know you’re thinking of them? Why not use the medium of music with help from a professional musician? Send a Musical Telegram to someone you love with personalized soul stirring lyrics.

Musical Telegram- it’s more than just chocolates & flowers- its love in a song! You can express your feelings and bring the magic of music to your relationship. Musical Telegram can be more personalized by writing and composing a song based on your description exclusively for your dear ones.

Place your order for musical telegram 5 – 10 days in advance so that you don’t miss the opportunity to make that day a memorable one.

The song will be later recorded professionally into a CD which you can gift to your loved one and can have it for your life time.

I’ve lived in Britain for all my 34 years and have never sang a valentines song, or had buns?!!!.. i have also never heard a of the scottish having a big festival!?

In Britain we’re pretty much the same as in the States… is all Roses, Chocolates, cards, and vastly overpriced romantic meals out!!

I live in the US and sending someone a singing valentine was more common in the 80s and 90s. Not so much anymore. But there are lots of concerts and other kinds of events. Dining out has always been a popular thing – restaurants are booked 2-3 weeks in advance. Something growing in popularity here is the romantic weekend get-away. Of course schools have Valentine dances and parties. Giving flowers is more popular than sweets – at least in my circles. And flowers can be given to anyone who is special – from your spouse to Grandma. People tend to give cut flowers but small pots of mini-roses and the like are gaining popularity. I just blogged about how to celebrate Valentine’s Day more sustainably. If you care to read it: http://travelmomma.wordpress.com
