Not everyone has a good Valentine’s Day, and the gift that you give can make or break it. Don’t buy a stuffed animal for a woman unless she collects them. It just shows that you didn’t bother to plan. Also, don’t buy lingerie unless you know what she likes to wear, not just what you want to see her in.

It’s better to steer clear of clothing of any kind. Watch what kind of card you get her, too, because they can say a lot of different things. Take time to read them and get one that’s appropriate so you don’t cause a problem later.

Even if she really needs that new vacuum cleaner or toaster, don’t buy it for Valentine’s Day. It’s way too unromantic.

Avoid ‘I love you’ keychains unless you’re asking the person to move in with you and there’s a key attached. Also, don’t buy jewelry in a ring-sized box unless it’s a ring and you really want to give it to her. It can be misleading and depressing for a woman to expect a ring based on the box and not get it.

No matter where you are the most common offerings are still flowers, chocolates, and cards, but there are as many customs as there are countries, and not everyone in a particular country does things in a traditional way. Some people like to break with tradition and get their love something that’s completely unique and different, making it very memorable for both parties and something that they can treasure in the future.

He was put to death for this, according to the legend.

Whether that’s true or not is really not known, because the origins of the holiday are, for the most part, a mystery. Other legends say that he helped people escape harsh treatment by the Romans or that he fell in love with the jailor’s daughter while in prison and wrote her a letter, which is how the sending of valentines got started.

No matter how the legend began, Valentine’s Day is big business today with cards and flowers and candy. Some men also buy their girlfriends jewelry for the day, and it’s a popular time to get engaged as well. This tradition of love will continue well into the future.
